Happy Independence Day

Edward Moran, Unveiling The Statue of Liberty, 1886

The New Colossus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Emma Lazarus, 1883

I wish you and yours a very happy Independence Day and Fourth of July, from your neighbor to the north (Canada).

Your country is a beacon unto all the world...

Hi Rebecca! Want to play some tag? You're it!

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your Summer. Post these instructions in your blog along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they’re listening to.

Hello Rebecca!

I dropped by for a visit from Lavinia's blog and I saw we had almost the exact post for the 4th of July! Have you seen Emma's poem inscribed on a plaque inside the base of Lady Liberty? It means so much to me.

I enjoy tea very much. I brought Bewley's tea home from Ireland and Barry's tea for my daughter as she prefers that.
Since my son lived near Celestial Seasonings factory in Boulder, CO at one time we discovered many favorite blends of their tea when we visited their tasting room. Sadly, they recently changed hands to a large corporation.
