DRAWINGS

Beauty

The Proclamation

Angel of Mercy

I honestly can't remember a time in my life when I wasn't drawing. My first art kit came when I was about 7 or 8 years old but I was always drawing something and knew I wanted to be an artist. I never had an epiphany, it's just who I am. So, I wanted to share some of my drawings on the blog. I think most of the Tea Society ladies are familiar with my artwork by now but I wanted to show some of my favorite conte`crayon drawings. I love that the conte` pencil gives the impression of a red chalk Renaissance drawing and that's why I chose it to work with. The subjects I choose are very varied but I have an absolute passion for cemetery angels and they are among my favorite subjects. Two of the angels here are from a series of notecards that I made a few years ago. The other is of a Connemara Pony( I am a Kentucky girl after all and had to have some Equine Art thrown in for good measure.) I hope you enjoy them.

Your drawing are nice...I love the soft quality. I studied art in college, but it has been ages since I've actually done something. You are inspiring me to get my pencils and brushes out. Maybe a little trip to Dick Blick would do the trick. :)

Thank you... I haven't been very productive lately which I need to change. I have a group show with a Drawing Society in the works for next year but need to get busy. I've taught art on and off for about 12 years or so and that takes most of my creative energy but I love seeing students explore the magic of drawing.

You are so talented. These drawings are very sensitively rendered. I like the tones and the fine detailing. They capture a renaissance air. Aren't cemetery angels like no other? There is something ethereal and eternal about them. I have a photograph of a cemetery cherub somewhere in my computer, I shall paste it on my blog for you to have a peek at.

Thank you Lavinia. You are very kind.

Please do post the cherub! I have some stored on the computer for drawing references as well as to just enjoy. I drag my poor husband into these old cemeteries and he is so good to indulge me in this fascination.

You are very talented. Horses are very difficult to draw.
