EDWARDIAN PICNIC WITH THE TEA SOCIETY

On Saturday, June 6, 5 members of the LHTS ventured to Richmond, KY and the historic home of famous Kentuckian and Abolitionist, Cassius Clay. Some ladies arrived in Edwardian inspired dress and others in reproduction clothing to spend an afternoon sipping iced pomegranite tea and nibbling on tea sandwiches, honey bbq chicken nibblets, tea cookies, scones with lemon curd, fruit salad, and a delectable tart with fruit and mint. After eating, we strolled through the outdoor antique faire which was set up on the grounds of the manor, and spent a few quiet moments in the rose garden before touring the wonderful home known as White Hall.

The weather could not have been more perfect and the company was especially lovely. We certainly missed the members who were unable to attend, but you were with us in spirit. We must do this again. Perhaps we shall make an annual event of our Edwardian Picnic!

For more information on one of the most eccentric and colorful Kentuckians, please read the following biography on Cassius Marcellus Clay.

Hi Rebecca!

The gowns are beautiful. What a joy it must have been to revive this historic era. A couple of years ago we had a 'pioneer day' at church. Almost everyone came in 1800's dress. It was especially fun to see the men dressed up. I chose a late 1800's gown with a hoop. Great to hear from you Rebecca! Looks like you are enjoying a lovely summer hiatus.
Blessings,
Kalianne

Adore the Linen!!! The green color is fabulous - I'd not have chosen it for its unusual tone - but am stunned at its beauty with the white trim and blouse.

The work done is exceptional, really. How lovely to walk as if propped right in the middle of history!

3Cheers!!

Lovely. Sometimes I wish we all still dressed like this. How can today's 'casual look' compare to this elegance...(simple, it can't!).

Rebecca I thought of you today as I am again making your impossible vegetable pie recipe. This time I'm using broccoli (last time, cauliflower).

What a gorgeous post... and what a lovely day you all must have had. I see we both have had a blogging hiatus, and I am looking forward to catching up... trying to slowly visit all my favorites, of which yours is definitely one! Thanks for the peek into the LHTS's lovely day.

Blessings,
Christi

Rebecca,

What wonderful photos! I really enjoy the way that all of you look completely natural and relaxed in Edwardian era clothing and not as people wearing costume. I can't think of a better place to have had the picnic than Whitehall. I've heard its quite easy to lose one's sense of time and era there. I'm sure you already know about its somewhat spooky history?

I haven't painted Polly in awhile and seeing her so delightfully attired wearing one of her own creations reminds me that I should paint her again very soon.

Valerie and I missed you at the Paris Artwalk. Valerie had her Edwardian blouse, waistcoat and skirt to go with my usual Victorian attire. I brought one of my gramophones and played 78s for hours which brought in a lot of visitors to see the paintings. I've also been on a blogging hiatus. Will post pictures about the most recent Paris Artwalk soon.

I think I found you another artist for your Kentucky Pre-Raphaelite exhibit. I'll e-mail you about that soon.

kindest regards,
Patrick Lynch
